Scope for a Doctorate in Psychology

Receiving a doctorate’s degree in psychology basically means getting a PhD in psychology. PhD graduates in psychology have a huge scope and can take up many careers. As a PhD is the highest degree in psychology, graduates are eligible to dedicate their lives to the mentally disturbed and treat people having issues with regard to the mind.

PhD graduates in psychology mainly execute their functions in the branches of social welfare, mental health and academics. In the branch of social welfare, these graduates can take up the role of counselors and treat people who are downtrodden and mentally sick.

It is the duty of these counselors cum social workers to identify mental problems and treat the patients. Graduates with a doctorate in psychology are even entitled to practice as clinical counselors or clinical psychologists. In such cases, they usually set up their own clinics and advise patients on how to overcome psychiatric illnesses.

In the branch of education, they are eligible to practice as academic counselors or academic psychologists in schools, colleges and universities. Here, they guide students on how to deal with stress and do well in exams, co-curricular activities and sports.

They also study the performance patterns of mentally disturbed children or students who don’t seem to be doing well in academics and private life and help them overcome behavioral issues, like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), etc.
